       Im Stil des Neuen Realismus

Illustrator - Painter - Graphic Artist in the Style of the New Realism

Dear Visitor, a warm welcome to my homepage.

An artist in the Style of the New Realism is a story-teller. He tells stories of a moment (alternativ: of the present) or of the past, he tells own or foreign stories, near and far stories, true and fictitious stories.

I started to draw pictures from the childrens’ bible and pictures of saints at the age of four. I continued drawing as a teenager and in high school – by copying pictures as well as drawing my own interpretation of the pictures of the Old Masters. I also practiced the styles of the different “isms” of the 20th century like Cubism, Surrealism, Impressionism, Expressionism, Futurism etc.

I didn’t get stuck in the abstract and informal art - there was no space for me as a story-teller. I wanted to tell about or interpret the mythology of the Greek and Romans, about scenes of the bible, of the “Nibelungenlied”, of poems and novels. Furthermore, I wanted to capture topics of everyday life as well as integrate landscape, space, nature and people into my design. All this I only could accomplish in the style of the New Realism, in the style of my Realism, with my own individual style. Being an autodidact, I found my USP in this style.

For my designs I need pencils and crayons as well as colours and paint brushes for the mixed technique of acrylic, tempera, oil. My style commits me to an accurate and detailed working method. That is why – besides the drying of the paint – the creation of a design can take several months from the structure till the finish. For this reason I usually work on three to five different artworks parallely. During this time, I also develop new ideas and topics and I sketch them. For my designs I use paintings of other artists, photos of newspapers and magazines, models or I take a photo of original artwork myself. The structure of the painting is created precisely according to the rules of foreground and background, perspective, light and shadow etc. The topics of my designs result from various moments and occasions, suggestion from literature, history, music or from incidents of everyday life. Sometimes a detail qualifies for a design or several designs are necessary – however, most of the times a couple of attempts, coincidences or a longer process lead to an entire composition.
